Mesothelioma Definition

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that has been associated with an exposure to Asbestos, a fire and heat resistant material used in ceilings, walls, and roofing. Malignant (Cancerous) Mesothelioma can infect the pleura, a sac which lines the lungs and chest cavity, the abdomen or the area surround the heart. The disease does not show up until years after asbestos exposure. Many people who were exposed to Asbestos as early as the 1940’s are just beginning to be diagnosed with the disease.
